Dating Outside the Box: Choose Someone Unlike Anyone You’ve Dated Before

Go on a Date With Someone You Would Never Date

Now that you’ve dated every guy that meets each criterion of your checklist, how’s that working out for you? How long did it take to realize that you have spent much of your single life dating all the wrong guys? Probably not long but you keep telling yourself that it has to get better, right?

These are all common scenarios for single moms. It is best to proceed with caution, date a certain type of guy, and to stay within your comfort zone when dating. While all these things may be great, it is time to realize that dating outside the box doesn’t necessarily mean taking a walk on the wild side. It means that sometimes your list of must-haves in the perfect guy isn’t so perfect after all.

Here are a few ways to change the way you date by dating someone totally different but appealing in every other way.

Choose Someone Who Has a Career Path Opposite of That You Typically Prefer

Are you a woman who prefers to date only professional men with successful careers? Perhaps you are one who prefers blue-collar workers who get their hands a little dirty on the job. Whatever your preference may be, forget it and choose the opposite. You have no idea what the opposite will offer until you explore the option. If previous relationships with men of your preferred career type have failed, choosing differently can’t be any worse and could possibly be better.

Date a Guy Who is Completely Opposite of You

As single women, it’s easy to pair with men who are similar to us and have the same interests as we do. Try connecting with someone who may be a little different or enjoy different things in life. This presents an opportunity to learn and explore new things that you just might enjoy. You may be surprised to find how much you enjoy rollerblading or deep-sea diving once you’ve tried it for the first time or for the first time in a very long time. Many single women have become accustomed to keeping things simple and limiting their exposure to new or exciting adventures. Connecting with someone who is full of life could be what you’ve been missing. On the other hand, if you’re the spontaneous one who is always out doing new and exciting things, consider dating someone who is more balanced or calm with a natural approach to life. The trick to opposites in the dating world is to create a balance between you and your partner.

Go Some Place Different

You met the last three guys you dated at the same place – work, your child’s school functions, or at the bar. It’s time to change the scenery a bit. Go someplace different to meet a different type of guy and hopefully get a different type of result in the relationship. Online dating may not be for you, but there are other places to meet great guys. Speed dating, blind dates, and singles mixers are great ideas for meeting single men who seek other single women like yourself. Single moms become comfortable with their circumstances and tend to migrate to their comfort zones to meet other singles. It is okay to step outside the circle and go someplace different.

Don’t Be Afraid to Make the Connection

So many single women are simply afraid to connect with someone who doesn’t meet their criteria of the ideal man. You could be turning your back on the best date, relationship, or possibly more because you don’t think someone is your perfect match. Step out on a limb and connect with the guy who delivers mail to your office or with that doctor who gives you the eye every time you take your kids in for their appointments. A connection could be made over a cup of java, a walk in the park, lunch, dinner, or a weekend movie. The important thing is that you connect with him sooner than later.

Dating 101 is a course that every single mom has to repeat from time to time. Lesson plans change, and the tests will always have different questions, which means the answers will vary. What works for your single friend may not work for you. It is possible that you will make a connection with someone if you are willing to just try dating someone that is a little different than anyone you’ve ever dated in the past. You just may find the guy that is perfect for you.
