The best thing about Valentine’s day is the day after! Valentine’s day chocolate will be on sale!
I am not a Valentines Day fan and never have been even when I wasn’t single. I believe it is the most over-rated corporate holiday ever.
Do you remember the days in school when there were Valentines party’s and everyone gave a valentine card to everyone in their class? Back then it was innocent and fun. Then came middle school. In our school, we had “lolligrams”. You had to pre-order the red heart-shaped lollipops with a message to your loved one or bff. A lot of people would receive them and I had hoped one day, I would get one too. I never did lol. I wasn’t unpopular, ugly or bullied in middle school. I just never cared to be popular or liked by many.
Moving onto Valentines Day in high school. I don’t even recall what the gift was in high school. Maybe a rose. I don’t know. However, some would have their lockers decorated by their loves and some would carry around roses or flowers. I actually had a boyfriend while I was in high school but he didn’t go to my school so once again, I would go through each passing year feeling annoyed by the holiday.
Then real life begins with college and work. There was always a co-worker getting flowers delivered or a big night planned for the day. I will admit that I have received flowers and/or roses at times. I was taken to a nice restaurant and received cards and chocolates. It was nice but I always felt bad for the guy who had to spend a shit-ton of money on the dumbest holiday ever.
As a single person, I do not hate Valentine’s Day any more than if I wasn’t single. This year on Valentine’s Day, a group of friends is getting together to celebrate anti-Valentines day as I have done for many years now. It is so much fun compared to being stuck at a dinner table with a limited menu and little conversation with the person you see every day and should appreciate and love every day!
Although I realize some may disagree, I hope that the people who enjoy Valentines Day have a good one! If you are like me, you believe that you should always show your love and appreciation for someone on a regular basis. If you really want to celebrate, go out with friends or do something nice for yourself. You should be loving yourself above all else and Valentine’s Day is nothing more than a way for people to commercialize and make money.
